“Meta cognition: My Memoir”
In the book, “Running With Scissors,” Augusten Burroughs uses unique and
different patterns while writing his memoir. Throughout the book Augusten tells us a
story of a young boy and how he grows up in a dysfunctional environment. He illustrates
the thoughts of himself so that the audience gets a feel for what he is feeling as the main
character. He also descriptively describes all of his emotions for many different things.
He uses his thoughts to show us what it was like being Augusten. He also tends to go off
topic in some ways. In some parts of the book he begins talking about things that have
happened in the past. I decided to write about my first day at Malden High. Although
some of the facts can’t be verified it shows the true tone that Augusten uses in his
memoir. I related what I wrote to what Augusten had wrote about his school experience.
He hated it much like I did. Throughout the memoir Augusten Burroughs also gets into
intense details about certain events in his life. Much like what I did in my make believe
memoir.
I thought this assignment would be easier than the filler page or the cover page
because I can put a little bit of me in the way he writes. It’s easier for me to portray his
writing in my own experiences.
